UNDER THE BAR - THE CRICKETERS ARMS HOTEL

Interview and intro by Carolina Pasini | Photos by Yeah Rad.

In our latest Under The Bar spotlight, we've stepped into the legendary Cricketers Arms Hotel, aka “the Crix” - a gem that embodies the true spirit of a local.

Serving up more than just a pint, The Crix has long been the cornerstone of genuine pub culture in Eora. It's a place where the drinks flow as freely as the conversations, and the vending machine is as infamous as the loo-graf (but maybe not as grammable). Standing proudly independent, a haven for those who cherish authenticity over affectation, every ding, dent and faded photo tells a story.

We caught up with Janna, Crix queen and venue manager, to chat about her secret stories (no beans spilled), ageing and meditation.

CP | What do you like most about working at The Crix?

J | The Crix is a living remnant of Old Sydney, which I adore. Many old Sydney pubs have been absolutely ruined — completely gutted and utterly devoid of any personality. I love that the Crix looks the same as it always has and it’s still independently run.

CP | What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen or heard while working?

J | I've seen some shit, most of which can’t be repeated due to legal reasons. (laughs)

CP | What dish would you pair a Normie with at The Cricketers?

J | Fish burger with a Tough Stuff Shandy.

CP | Describe The Crix in three words

J | Ageing me rapidly (laughs)

CP | What do you listen to at work?

J | Guided meditation for stress and relaxation.
